Obituary

Vyvyan Laverne Love Kennedy was born to the union of Robert and Clara Love in East St. Louis, IL (Goose Hill) on September 02, 1936. She departed this life on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at her home surrounded by loved ones in O'Fallon, IL. She was preceded in death by both parents, three brothers: Robert, Jr., Garnell , Johnny Clarence and her husband Jesse "Tiny" Kennedy. She was the youngest of six children born to this union.

At an early age Vyvyan confessed a hope in Christ at Pilgrim Temple Methodist and later joined North End M. B. Church under the leadership of Rev. James Brown. She was educated in East St. Louis School District 189 and a June 1954 graduate of Lincoln Sr. High School. Vyvyan later attended Miners Teacher's College in Washington, D. C.

Vyvyan held a host of jobs including McDonnell Douglas, East St. Louis Police Department and East St. Louis School District 189 where she worked until she retired as a Clerk/Typist. As an employee of District 189 she was dedicated to the students. Vyvyan was very caring and loved to give gifts to people. She would often go to yard sales on Saturday's for pleasure where she would purchase things for herself, family and often uniforms for students. For relaxation Vyvyan also liked to spend time at the casino playing penny slots.

Upon her death she was a member of Shining Light M. B. Church where she was devoted and dedicated to the Usher Board, Mother's Board, and Trustee. Vyvyan left a legacy that will never be forgotten. One of compassion, understanding and faith in the unknown.

She leaves to cherish her memories: Sister, Eldora Love Adkins, brother, Alfonso (Constance) Love, children, Genyne (Jesse) Akins, Frederick James, Tina Kennedy, Tracye (Dan) Kennedy-Brisker and granddaughter that she raised Tiffany (Michael) Kennedy-Sims, special niece Rose Mary (William) Tally, ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends: Eula "Boochee" Holly, Zinnie Coates, Veda Duncan, Charlene Davis, Bobbie DeBruce, Lawrence Sherrod and Alice James. A special thanks to her home care worker, Brenda Spearman.
