Obituary

Vivian Edmond was born in Newberry, South Carolina on September 26, 1933 to the late Olin and Jessie Floyd. She was the sister of Olin and Charles Floyd who preceded her in death. Vivian was fiercely protected by her brothers and their commitment to watching over her transpired long after she finished Benedict College and moved to Buffalo, New York.

Upon relocating to Buffalo, she began her teaching career with Buffalo Public School system and served as a second and third grade teacher with expertise in the teaching of reading at Public Schools # 37, 47 and 12. As a child, she was baptized at the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Newberry, which is where she wed James Ernest Edmond. The two returned to Buffalo to carve out their niche in the community while raising three children: Karen, Gail, and James F. "Jimmy" Edmond. Her beloved Ernest passed away suddenly in 1985. Vivian was devoted to the spiritual development of her children, those at Faith Baptist Church and family members and the communities of Buffalo and Depew, New York.

Her heart was just as loving as her smile. To know her was to love her. She gave of herself and was always willing to lend a helping hand. As with her students, Vivian loved every niece, nephew, grandchild and great grandchild. She was Auntie to some, Mother Dear to others, or Aunt Vivian. Whoever you were, if you ever made it to 19 Domino Court, her home, you were nestled in her sanctuary. She loved cook outs, overnight stays and out of town guests. She was happiest when guests were eating and visiting at her home. She completed her life in the Edwardsville area, as she battled debilitating health issues. She was loved and seen as a warm gentle spirit even to those who cared for her.

On March 5, 2019 she quietly departed this life and joined a host of relatives, co-workers, church members, and friends in the safe, secure arms of the Lord. The memory of her smile and selfless love will carry on with her children and grandchildren: Karen, Gail and Jimmy, their spouses Joe and Robbie. Sister-in-law Eunice Murphy (Buffalo, NY), Grandchildren Geryll and Krystal (Baltimore, MD), Joseph and Galen (Houston ,TX), James, Nicholas, and Kendall (Edwardsville, IL), eight great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
