Obituary

Viola Patterson Redmon was born July 6, 1921 in Barlow, Louisiana to Joseph and Katie Patterson. She was an only child, and was preceded in death by her parents, husband and only child.

Viola's family moved to East St Louis, Illinois when she was very young. She received her education in the East. St. Louis Public Schools. She married Harry Lee Redmon in 1939, and to this union, one son, Charles Don Redmon, was born. She was a Nurse's Assistant at St. Vincent's Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri for several years and later worked at Neiman Marcus before she retired.

Viola joined St. John's Lutheran Church in the 1950's, which later became Unity Lutheran Church. She served her church as a member of The Lutheran Women's Missionary League and Church Council. She served until her health failed.

Viola was a constant source of love and support for her family and friends. Her kindness and genuine characteristics of compassion for and understanding of others, were enjoyed by those whose lives she touched. Her quiet demeanor, yet outspoken views made her shine as one of the classiest ladies in and around town.

Viola fell asleep peacefully in the arms of Jesus, on Sunday January 12, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She leaves to cherish her memory and mourn her passing, her loving granddaughters, Cynthia(Todd) Corley of Dublin, OH and Lori (Aaron ) Arter of Powder Springs, GA; three great-grand children, Jarred, Brooke and Elease Corley of Dublin, OH; a devoted daughter-in-law Lavondas Redmon ; two nephews Robert (Sulbrena) Day Sr. of Waterloo, IL and Robert Day, Jr. of East St. Louis, IL.  Four cousins, Sheryl Brown of Jackson, Michigan; Stephanie Patterson and Katie Davis of Los Angeles, CA, Cora Thomas of Hawthorne, CA, other family, friends, and her Unity Church family.
