Mrs. Susie Dent was born August 22, 1923 in Brooksville, Mississippi to the union of Percy and Irene (Harris) Keaton. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Pearlie Mae Washington and Rosie Lee Neal; brothers, Percy, Charlie and Levertis, Newt, Willie B. Smith, Oddis and Otha Keaton; stepmother, Ora Lee Keaton.
Susie was educated in the Ruleville, Mississippi Public School System. However, in 1941 she moved to East St. Louis, IL with her husband, Willie Dent.
While Susie accepted Christ at an early age, she established a close relationship with our Lord and Savior as a long standing member under the leadership of Pastor Lester Thomas Phinnessee (Friendship Missionary Baptist Church) later in life attending and sitting as Mother at Mt. Sinai Baptist under the leadership of Pastor Herman Watson, Sr. Susie is now experiencing eternal rest with the Lord and Savior.
Susie loved to read and instilled in all of us that education was the key to life's successes. Susie was well respected as the longest living Matriarch of the Harris and Keaton Family. Susie was also well known as a excellent cook, who by request of many, catered most of the meals for church and family functions. Above all, Susie cherished the love and support given and received from family and friends.
Susie departed this life on April 8, 2023. She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Janette M. Madlock-Dent; three grandsons, JaRon L. Dent, Ronald N. Madlock, Jr., and Benjamin A. Paul; one granddaughter, Tiyanna J. Covington; one great-grandson, William A. Madlock; a special god-daughter, LaVerne R. Wise (DeUndrae, Calethia, Dabrielle Deante and Zia Cartrell), her sister, Bobbie Jean Martin of Cleveland, Mississippi; sister-in-laws, Barbara Keaton of Belleville, IL, Emma Keaton of Cleveland, Mississippi, Bertha Keaton of Romeoville, IL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives; a life-long friend of over 55 years, Mrs. Rosetta Parham of East St. Louis, IL.
