Stephanie Elaine Jones Randolph was born on April 16, 1949 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the beloved daughter of Walter Randolph and Risbia Jones Randolph.
At an early age, Stephanie gave her life to Christ. As a teenager, she participated in the Children's Ministry, teaching Sunday School classes. Although she was a member of Truelight Baptist Church, on occasion she attended Parks Chapel A.M.E. with her father. During her adult years, she became a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Henry Nicholson then Rev. Timothy Chambers. She served on various church committees and participated in activities, chaperoned lock-ins, cooked for fundraisers an served as MC for gospel programs.
Stephanie attended school in East St. Louis, District 189, where she excelled. She graduated from Lincoln Senior High School in 1967. in June 2017, Stephanie attended her 50th Class Reunion, where she thoroughly enjoyed and participated in all of the festivities for the weekend. Stephanie received her Associate in Arts Degree from State Community College.
Stephanie was born to be an educator. She has numerous awards and contributions to her credit. She worked for the Head Start Program, in Brooklyn, as Head Teacher. Three times she was awarded " Teacher Of The Year " and received a Community Development Award for opening Day Care Centers throughout the state. Since Stephanie wanted to help young women who were participants of the Welfare to Work Program, she accepted a Case Manager position at Full Circle. Under her tutelage, many women were able to establish career goals. Later, Stephanie returned to work as an educator at A.M. Jackson Math and Science Academy.
Stephanie had been an active member for several organizations, such as the National Council of Negro Women (2010 Honoree), The National Black Child Development Association, Girl Scouts Association, 4 H Club and Illinois Board of Elections.
Stephanie had the biggest heart. She was passionate about helping and blessing anyone, especially children and elderly. She used her God-given talents to enrich the lives of others. She was a mother to numerous children besides her daughters. Stephanie enjoyed life to the fullest. Her comedic timing garnered her the title of being the "female Richard Pryor". She would make you laugh until you cried. She was in her comfort zone being the center of attention. Her gregarious personality made people gravitate to her. Stephanie was an extraordinary cook, known for her mouth-watering fried chicken, mac and cheese, fried corn and sweet potato pie. She hosted countless family gatherings. She composed and presented many poems for diverse occasions and events. Stephanie loved listening to music and dancing. Her daughter called her "Debbie Allen", referencing some of her dance routines. Her musical artists ranged from Chaka Khan to her number one, Tupac. Camp Ouatoga was a special place, where she felt free and alive; she attended camp from childhood through adulthood. She cherished being considered a favorite camp counselor.
Stephanie peacefully departed this life on Saturday, May 8, 2021. She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughters ~ Danyale Owens and Alayna Jones; aunt, uncle; granddog ~ Gatsby; and a host of siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
