Sherman L. Nicholson was born on June 11, 1961 in St. Louis, Missouri to Georgia Nicholson and Marvin Young.
Sherman who was affectionately called Pete, was adopted by his father, Franklin D. Nicholson at the age of 12. Pete confessed a hope in Christ at an early age. Pete was baptized at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. He also attended New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Teddy Wand.
Pete graduated from Lincoln Senior High where he was a prom king. He was known to be a sharp dresser and loved by many.
Pete worked for Canteen Township for many years. He later worked for the city of Washington Park for over 20 years, until becoming disabled. He was a Precinct Committeeman for more than 20 years for the Village of Washington Park.
Pete was the life of the party, who never met a stranger. He loved to joke, and be surrounded by family and friends. He loved entertaining friends with a game of dominoes and chess.
Pete loved spending time with his favorite girl, his mother. She will miss him dearly.
Pete is preceded in death by his fathers, grandmothers, grandfathers, a sister and an aunt.
On January 8, 2019, with family surrounding him, God dispatched a special angel to bring him home.
He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory; his mother, Georgia Nicholson; five daughters, Tasha (Andre) Fulton, Kenya Jackson, Ieshia (Levere) Coleman, Ormeka Elem and LaKeisha Nicholson; two sons, Sherman Nicholson, Jr. and Charles Franklin; 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Rhonda (Gregory) Coleman, Ramona (Lamont) McGraw, Chiquita Adams, Shalaunda (Rodney) Walker and Crystal Frierson; four brothers, Marvin (Michelle) Young, Kent (Portia) Young, Myron Chandler and Damon Harris; five aunts; three uncles; three great-aunts; one special uncle, Eric Sanders; 2 special aunts, Marie Sanders and Janice Nicholson; two special great aunts, Louise Prince and Varrie Nicholson; dozens of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; three best friends, Jackie Wilson, Steve Reid and Percy Duke.
