Sheila Denise
Lawrence
Mar 14, 1955 — May 19, 2020
Collinsville
Sheila Denise Lawrence was born on March 14, 1955 in Saint Louis, Missouri to Ira Lee Lawrence and Dorothy Jean Garrett Lawrence Baldwin. Sheila was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Jean Baldwin; her maternal grandparents, Houston and Mae Ella Garrett; her paternal grandparents, Henry and Ocie Mae Lawrence and a brother, Thelton Lawrence.
Sheila was educated in East Saint Louis School District #189 and graduated from East Saint Louis Sr. High Class of 1974. She attended Missouri Technical School and Professional Business School receiving degrees in
Clerk Typist and Office Procedures. She was employed at East Saint Louis Housing Authority.
Sheila confessed a hope and love in Christ at an early age at Greater New Bethel Temple under pastorage of the late Bishop J.P. Coleman. She loved the Lord and the Word. She could always be found reading her daily Word or
some form of spiritual literature.
Sheila dated her high school sweetheart, Frederick Williams, and they bore two beautiful daughters, Keiawani and Keimiya.
Sheila was a fun, loving and outgoing person and never met a stranger. She would find "friends" in any store, doctor's office or random outing. She was the best mother figure, not only to her children, but to their friends, her
nieces, nephews or any other child she encountered. She would nourish them physically, spiritually and emotionally with knowledge and food. She was a constant source of inspiration and encouragement. From being a good
listener, understanding and always being helpful, she drew people of all ages to her.
Sheila and her family decided to expand their love to the community through the 1980's and 1990's and ran a prominent business, D.J.'s Lounge aka Club 2151. She could be found socializing, serving or "cutting a rug" on the
dance floor and simply enjoying the family atmosphere experienced from being around people within the community and neighborhood. This was not just a business, but a family friendly environment, where you were always
welcomed with love, laughter, good food and great service. On May 19, 2020 in Anderson Hospital, Maryville, Illinois, with her daughters by her side, she peacefully released her hand in this world. Sheila took the hand of her Lord and Savior as she took her final breath with the wonderful view of Heaven in sight.
