Reba Malone Merritt was born on October 24, 1942 to the union of Beulah (Gates) Malone and Harvey Malone in the city of East St. Louis, IL. Preceding her in death were her parents and three siblings: Harvey Jr., Harriet, and Robert. She attended Southern Mission Baptist Church during her early childhood. She also attended East St. Louis Public Schools.
Reba relocated to Detroit, MI during her teenage years to live with an aunt Pearl Lawry. She decided to remain in Michigan, where she became employed with Ford Motor Company until her retirement. Later, she moved to Rock Island, IL where she was united with her dear husband, Elton Merritt, who stuck by her side until her death. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Belleville, IL.
Reba was known for being the family and friend green expert. She took pride in preparing the typical soul food recipe- greens, macaroni and cheese, turkey wings, and hot water cornbread.
Reba departed this life on August 23, 2017. She leaves to cherish her memories her beloved husband, Elton Merritt and his children, Conswayda Merritt and Elton J. Merritt and their children; one sister Patricia Lewis; a godbrother Spencer Felix; a special nephew whom she raised as her own, Cedric Welch of Virginia; and a plethora of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
