Obituary

Patricia Ann Gates Lewis, age 84 of East Saint Louis, IL, born May 2, 1933, in Cincinnati, OH passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2018.

Patricia was a lifetime member of Southern Mission Missionary Baptist Church. She retired from the serving as the Director of Holy Angels Homeless Shelter in East Saint Louis, IL after more than 30 years. During her tenure with Holy Angels Homeless Shelter she received numerous awards for her leadership and outstanding community service. Patricia held various other leadership roles which included serving on the Board of Trustees for Metropolitan Community College in East Saint Louis, IL and Board of Directors for Call for Help, Inc. in Belleville, IL. In her earlier years she was an advocate for East Saint Louis Habitat for Humanity where she was recognized for her many years of dedication. Patricia was an activist and highly respected, influential leader in the community.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Beulah Gates Malone; brothers: Harvey Malone, Robert Malone; and sisters Harriet Malone and Reba (Elton) Merritt; a son, Michael Lewis; daughters, Susan (Robert) Harris and Jeanette McCaskill, and several other close family members.

Patricia is survived by her sons, James Melton and Cedric (Ngozi) Melton; daughters, Wilma Bourrage and Rolanda Lewis; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
