Pastor Leroy
Moore
Aug 17, 1950 — Feb 20, 2019
belleville
Leroy Moore was born on a Thursday, August 17, 1950 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Jimmie Lee Moore and Ethel Mae (Hairston) Moore. He was the second of three children.... Delores, Leroy and Kenneth. Leroy attended school in District #189 graduating from the East St. Louis Senior High School. He continued his education at Manpower Technical School, earning a certificate in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. He also went on to college, receiving an Associate Degree in Applied Science.
He met a union lady while playing basketball with some friends.....she ignored his flirtations; neither of them realizing they would become a couple for life as husband and wife. Leroy was an avid dragster who also received a Trophy driving his Camaro in Drag Racing. He and his brother, Kenneth, loved "hot-rod" type cars.
Leroy was drafted into the military, serving in the U.S. Army for 2 years. He was stationed in Plaku, Vietnam and also Laos, Vietnam. It was indeed a horrific time in his life. There were many prayers set up for him by his parents, siblings and the Saints of God. He was blessed by the Lord to return after so many in his platoon didn't make it home. He received the Army Commendation Medal and an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army.
Upon returning home, he surprisingly met up again with the same young lady he met prior to being drafted into the Army. Leroy and Massy were married in August of 1972. They have been married nearly 46 years and to this union, two amazing children were born, Eric and Alesha Moore.
Leroy returned to employment at Cerro Copper and Brass in Sauget, Illinois. Later, he was employed at the Shell Oil Refinery in Roxana, Illinois, where he retired after 30 years in 2007.
Leroy's other hobby was gardening. He loved flowers and especially roses. He seemed to have a "green thumb" for growing beautiful flowers, of which he had over 80 different roses up to grade 10. He also helped to start the 1st Van Club in East St. Louis, Illinois. They called themselves "The High Riders." He was also a GREAT COOK. However, God had different plans for Leroy.
Leroy was baptized in Jesus' name at an early age under the late District Elder E.C. Seales at the Bethel Temple of the P.A.W. He received the baptism of the Holy Ghost years later in his bathroom at home. He had attended a Council of the M.D.C. Session, under the leadership of the late Bishop J.P. Coleman, listening, studying and praying the Lord called him into the Ministry. He taught the Adult Sunday School Class until his illness would no longer allow him to teach. He became an ordained Elder, preaching his 1st sermon from Revelations 3:16, "So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out my mouth." Elder Moore has been faithful to the church and his calling. The torch was passed to him during the illness and later passing of Bishop L.P. Coleman. He was installed in 2002. Evangelist Massy Moore was also blessed and became the Mother of the church. He had proved to be a hardworking, faithful servant of God. He started and finished many projects beautifying the church with the help of his wife and members. God blessed him with the vision and the means for getting it done. He preached the word of God and was a very generous man. He did what he could to promote peace, unity and love in the house of God. He allowed the Lord to order his steps. He preached what was written in the Bible.
