Rev. Scrivens Jones , Pastor of the Lilly Hill Missionary Baptist Church departed this life on Sunday, March 19, 2017 . Scrivens Jones was born in Macel, Mississippi on January 31, 1942 to the union of Rev. Eddie Jones and Missionary Sara Jones. He was the third of ten children. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, 3 brothers, John Mark, Cornelious, John Henry, and one sister, Ollie.
Scrivens confessed a hope in Christ at the age of seven and was baptized at the Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church in East St. Louis, IL. He grew up on Goose Hill. He attended Garfield Elementary School and Carver Junior High School of East St. Louis, IL. In 1960, Scrivens graduated from Northwestern High School in Detroit, Michigan. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Army.
Returning home, Scrivens attended State Community College graduating earning an Associate's Degree in Addiction Counseling and Human Services. He received a Bachelor of a Science Degree from Southern Illinois University in the field of Social Work. Taking additional courses, he continued his education to become a Licensed Social Worker and Certified MISA-II (Mentally Ill Substance Abuse Counselor).
Reverend Jones enjoyed playing a good game of chess, fishing, and gardening.
Reverend Scrivens Jones leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Dianne Reed Jones. He is the proud father of three daughters, Adrianne Wilson, Crystal (James) Davis, and Scrivena Jones. Loving father to his stepchildren, Mia Reed, Lea Reed, Terrance (LaTosha) Wilson, Antwain (Carlyn) Mallory; special god daughter, Odessa Coates. Loving brother to Rev. Lillie Waddy, Eugene (Bertha) Jones, Norbert Jones, Charles Jones, Marilyn Jones-Bishop and Carl Newell (life long friend). Pastor Scrivens is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
