Obituary

Olivia Adell Campbell was the baby girl of the Campbell siblings. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mose Campbell Sr. and Dorothy McWilson Campbell; and siblings, Marinda Wright, Dorothy B. Upchurch, Mose Campbell Jr., Robert "Sparrow" Campbell, George D. Campbell, Dr. Henry D. Campbell, Selena R. Campbell, Raymond Campbell, and Johnny E. Campbell.

Olivia and her siblings enjoyed worshipping at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church during their early years of life with their mother, who worshipped there for over 70 plus years. During her adult life, she worshipped at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Olivia was a product of the East St. Louis School District #189, where she attended John Robinson Elementary School, Hughes-Quinn Junior High School, and Lincoln Sr. High School. She further continued her education and her desire to become a Registered Nurse at Homer G. Phillips School of Nursing and graduated in the class of 1961. She loved being a nurse and served in that capacity for over 40 years where she spent her latter years serving as a Psych Nurse at St. Louis Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center.

Olivia was the matriarch of her family. She loved her family and enjoyed reading several daily newspapers each and every day, as well as novels! She enjoyed providing resources to all who needed her. She would give her last to take care of her family. Nothing was ever too big for her; she often went out of her way to accommodate others' needs. Cooking was also a passion she had. She labored over the stove with love and stewed something good and tasty that everyone could enjoy! She always made sure that there was more than enough food for everyone. Olivia often stated she would make extras just in case someone would stop by to eat. Up until her death, she enjoyed good food.

Olivia was very unassuming and private about her personal life. She had a few very close friends who she associated with on a regular basis. She would tell you exactly what was on her mind and didn't bite her tongue. Olivia was a wise person who shared her wisdom with everyone.

Olivia had a dynamic care team that provided assistance during her finals days in the rehabilitation center and at home. She relied heavily on them to be her eyes, ears, hands, and feet, as her body grew feeble and weak, but her mind was sharp! We could not have done it without them: Antwion Salmond (grandson), Cierra Williams Salmond (granddaughter), Kaliah (great-granddaughter), Bridget Campbell (niece), Bradley Campbell (nephew), special caretakers, Ms. C. and Ms. Val.

Olivia Adell Campbell leaves to cherish her memories her children: Terrance (Vivien) Campbell, Dr. Emma Campbell (Rev. Keith) Cornelius, John Hill Jr. (Jennifer); sister, Gloria Campbell White (Johnny) Jordan; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; numerous cousins, other relatives and friends who will cherish her memories forever.
