Mother Nellie Street was born on July 29, 1910 in Lexington, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Raymond Street.
Mother Street received the Holy Ghost in 1961 in a revival conducted by Missionary Gilmore and Missionary Shields at 1430 Colas Avenue Church of God In Christ in East St. Louis, Illinois, under the leadership of Pastor John Wesley Gray. She was also under the other pastors of Colas, even when it became Colas Temple Church of God In Christ under the leadership of Superintendent King Tyus, Bishop Michael Brown and her present, Pastor Louis Courtland.
She became a missionary. Mother Street loved teaching the Word of God, some of her favorite songs were; This Little Light of Mine, When You Hear of My Homegoing and Walk with Me, Lord. She was a faithful servant of the Lord until her health declined.
In 2Timothy, the fourth chapter starting with verse 6, the apostle says, "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness…….:" Mother Nellie Street made her transition from this life on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 12:30 in the morning. She leaves to cherish her memory, Sam Harlan, her godson/caretaker, her church family at Colas Temple and Smyrna Pentecostal Church.
