Mr. Nathan "Nookie" Smith was born to the late Walter and Mary Smith on November 4, 1962 in East St. Louis, Illinois. Nookie was preceded in death by both parents, Walter and Mary Smith. Five sisters, Izola Lumas, Ruby Smith, Edna McDaniel, Mary Jane Lumas, and Linda Jackson; five brothers, Johnny James Smith, Walter Smith, Lester "Lett" Smith, Chester "Chet" Smith and his twin Nathaniel "Pig" Smith.
Nookie confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and united with the St. John Missionary Baptist Church of Centreville, IL.
Nookie was reared in East St. Louis where he received his formal education in the East St. Louis School District 189 where he gained many, many friends..
Nookie was employed at various jobs, the last one being at The Specialized Living Center until his confinement to a wheel chair. He was a very devoted father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. He was the life of everybody's party.
Mr. Nathan Smith departed this life on March 8, 2021 . He leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters LaShawndra Smith, Chokaio Smith; two grandchildren JaShawn Dudley and Shawnice Jones four sisters Annie (William) Moore of Fairview Heights, Yvonne (Derick) Jones of East St. Louis, IL, Clara (Anthony) Smith of St. Louis, Missouri, Vanessa Smith of Belleville, IL; one brother Eugene (Christy) Smith of Belleville, IL, and a host of relatives and friends.
