Obituary

Monzell L. Williams, Sr. entered this world on August 30, 1966 to the parents of Ms. Pearlie Mae Williams and Mr. Raymond Cox.  Monzell was the twin of Mrs. Monica L. Robinson. Monzell was a son, brother, father, uncle, nephew, grandfather, cousin, ex husband and best friend.

Monzell enjoyed life and was able to travel to different states and other countries for a brief period in his life. He truly loved people and socializing. Later in life, Monzell confessed a hope in Christ and his passion and joy now came in worshiping Jesus and God. He truly loved the Lord and strived every day to get closer to God and be acceptable in His eyes.  He really had a good time participating in various church activities and he loved quoting his Bible. You could always find him reading the Word and listening to his favorite church songs.

Monzell moved from East Saint Louis, IL to Smyrna, GA and became a permanent resident of Georgia for 23 years. His mother proceeded him in death in 1985 and his father in 2003. His great uncle, Mr. Charles D. Williams in 2000. Monzell later became a father through holy matrimony. He has one son, Mr. Monzell L. Williams, Jr. and one granddaughter, Miss Sydney Williams of Georgia.

Monzell had many positions in life but he truly loved driving trucks after he received his CDL in Georgia. He remained a truck driver until his illness with Diabetes took over his kidney and he had to go on dialysis. Monzell struggled hard with his illness and diabetes took one of his failing kidneys. He was on the donor list in Florida for a healthy donor kidney for many years but never received one.

Monzell went home to glory on Wednesday, July 25th at Glen Lakes Terrace Rehabilitation Center in Waukegan, IL after a battle with a serious brain injury and sepsis infection. Monzell went home to our Heavenly Father with his twin sister, Monica, by his side. Also preceded in death was his oldest sister, Mrs. Colleen E. Ewing, (2018) of East Saint Louis, IL and cousins Miss Iman Rashaad Ewing and Master Erich-Lee Brown (1996) of Belleville, IL.
