Mattie lived a full life full of love, strength, and devotion to her family.

Mattie attended East St. Louis School District #189 where she graduated from Lincoln High School. She married Charles Lewis and later attended Debbie's Beauty School where she obtained her Beauty License.

After graduation, Mattie opened her own salon where she served many clients within the city. In addition to being a well-known stylist, she worked at Famous & Barr Company for many years. Throughout her career Mattie had a strong work ethic and was highly respected by colleagues and peers.

Mattie was preceded in death by her late husband, Charles (Baby Lewis) Lewis, her siblings, Linda Hodges, Clyde Johnson, Delores (Dee Dee Faye), and Rosie Matthews, her grandchildren, Troy (Boonie) Edwards, and Cha'Nelle (Nelle) Lewis.

Mattie was called to eternal rest on March 31, 2025. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and the cherished memories of her nurturing spirit. She is survived by her four beloved children, Cassandra Larry, Charles Anthony Lewis, Emil Lewis, and Larry (Marianne) Crisp, Jr; 35 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of immense joy to her. Her family was the heart of her world, and she took pride in being a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Mattie is also survived by her youngest sister, Beverly (Daniel) Simmons, whom she cherished deeply and held close in her heart.

Her bond with family and friends is a testament to her warmth, her generous heart, and fire-cracker spirit.

Mattie's memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her. She will be deeply missed, but her love will continue to guide and inspire her family for generations to come.
