Obituary

Mattie Louise Newell Jackson was born October 22, 1932 in Occola, Arkansas to the union of the late Henry Newell Sr. and Argell Newell. She was the third child of seven children. She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband Andrew Jackson, siblings, Pink Newell, Minnie Newell Wright, Carline Newell Curtis, Henry Newell Jr. and son/nephew Ralph Newell.

Mattie graduated from Lincoln Senior High School in 1950. After completing high school Mattie relocated from East St. Louis, IL (Goose Hill Area) to Indianapolis, IN where Mattie met and married the love of her life, Andrew Jackson. The couple married in 1956. They would remain married "until death did them part" in 1993. Mattie and her husband relocated to Newport News, VA.

Mattie worked for the United States Military as a Finance Clerk for more than 40 years before retiring. Mattie later relocated back to the East St. Louis/ O'Fallon, IL. area due to the death of her nephew/son and her failing health.

Mattie depated from this life on Friday, August 14, 2020 at 6:45 p.m. at the Colonnade Senior Living Center in O'Fallon, IL.

Mattie leaves to cherish her memory her sister Betty Newell of St. Peters, MO; two brothers David (Mary) Newell of Midwest City, OK, Carl Newell of East St. Louis, IL., son/nephew Timothy Wright of St. Louis, MO; two devoted and loyal life long friends, Ada Moore and Helen Lawrence both of Newport News, VA, special caregiver/niece Gina Eckford who was an employee at the Collonade Senior Living Center and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
