Obituary

Mattie Lavone Coleman, a native of East Saint Louis, Illinois was born April 29, 1951 to the union of Mattie Mae (Lee) and Flousel Coleman Sr. She was educated in the East Saint Louis School District 189. Mattie was very active with Politics and was the Precinct Committee woman for the Democrat party and also worked as a dedicated volunteer for many years.

Mattie was a kind and loving person. She was very wise and a great teacher for the streets. She was a giver and there wasn't anything that she wouldn't do for you if she could. She made sure if she couldn't attend events, that she made her presence known with a gift or money. She will give you her last whether you needed it or not. Mattie was known for family first and making sure that everyone was ok. She enjoyed watching her stories, western and loved to bake and cook. Mattie was also an Illinois State license foster mother.

Mattie was a loving and supportive mother of two children, Carlos Coleman and Yolanda Coleman.

Mattie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age. Mother Mattie Coleman was an active member of the mother's board of House of Prayer Assembly, Centreville, Illinois. Mattie took her seat in heavenly place November 5, 2017. She will always be remembered for her quick wit; community holiday baskets. She was a generous person who was friendly to all and much more.

Mattie Lavone Coleman is survived by her two children Carlos (Delores) and Yolanda Coleman; Five grandchildren; Jennifer, Jessica and Krystal Coleman, Montez Wilson and Carlos Pickens. Two great grandchildren, Londyn Wilson and Heaven Myles. Her special friend Daniel Lewis and her ride or die niece Crystal Coleman. She is also survived by her siblings, Joseph (Linda) Coleman, Rev. Geraldine (Rev. Roosevelt) Dixon, Arthur (Regina) Coleman, Jonah (Desiree) Coleman, Michelle Cartwright, Antonnette (Darrell) Glenn, Vanessa Byrd; and Demetrick Coleman. Sister in law, Shirley Coleman. Host of nieces, nephews, Godchildren, cousins and many friends.

Mattie was preceded in death by her parents Mattie Mae and Flousel Coleman Sr., Michael, Josie, Donnie, Antoine and Flousel Coleman Jr.
