On February 9, 1926, Margaret Louise Stroter was born to the union of Arthur and Lucille Anderson in the city of East St. Louis, Illinois. Her parents and her sister Dorothy Anderson preceded her in death. Margaret lived her entire life of 91 years in East St. Louis, Illinois except for briefly living at Cedarhurst Assisted Living in Collinsville and Elmwood Nursing Home located in Maryville, Illinois.
Margaret attended public school in East St. Louis. She also attended and graduated from cosmetology school. She only fixed her hair (smile) and no one else. Margaret was united in Holy Matrimony to Neumon E. Stroter in December of 1941 and to this union two children were born: Neumon, Jr. and Richard. She was married to the love of her life for 65 years, until his passing in January, 2006. Margaret loved to rend newspapers and she always had a book, a novel, to rend. Every year she planted a garden in her backyard at 1121 St. Louis Avenue, East St. Louis. We had plenty of tomatoes, okra, and squash. Margaret worked several jobs but her last place of employment was St. Mary's Hospital in East St. Louis, where she retired with 20 plus years of employment. Margaret peacefully and quietly departed this life on August 24, 2017 at Elmwood Nursing Home. To cherish her memory, she leaves to mourn her two sons, Neumon (Betty) Stroter and Richard (Katrina) Stroter; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; a special niece Deanna Greer; her brother Arthur Anderson of Omaha, Nebraska and a host of family, relatives, friends, and neighbors. Margaret's physical presence will be sorely missed by those who knew and love her, but the loving spirit will remain ever present.
