Lucille Williams departed this life on January 3, 2017. She was born to Andrew and Katherine Towns on March 17, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi.

Lucille was joined in wedlock to Sherman Williams on February 12, 1950. They relocated to the East St. Louis area. Nine children were born to this union.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman and a daughter, Emma Wallace.

Lucille was born to be a caregiver. She worked for awhile as a home health aide, but the majority of her life was spent taking care of her family and anyone else who needed her help.

She has been affectionately called Mama Lucy and Granny Lulu. She was known for and will be remembered for how she mothered all the children who came through her door. Everyone was welcomed, everyone was fed, and everyone could stay as long as needed.

Lucille accepted Christ in her life as a child and was drawn with loving kindness, being baptized in the name of Jesus and filled up with the Holy Ghost under the pastorate of Suffragan Bishop John H. Pettiford, Jr. in July of 2001. There she served on the Mother's Board.

She leaves to cherish her memory, Sherman (Florence) Williams of Baton Rouge, LA, Ernest (Denise) Williams of Belleville, IL, Williamenia Allen of Centreville, IL, Glynn Austin of Alton, IL, Sherman Ann Turner of Dallas, TX, Andrew Williams of Kansas City, MO, Mary (Carl) Watson of Columbus, OH, Anthony Williams of Sioux Falls, SD and Annie (Michael) Person of Columbus, OH; 23 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild along with a host of nieces, nephews, and "play" children.
