Mrs. Leana (Dorothy) Mitchell was the sixth child born to Lucious and Leana Dones. She was born on December 23, 1943, in Sunflower County, Mississippi. Leana accepted Christ at an early age.

Leana was preceded in death by her parents, Lucious, and Leana, two sisters, Ruby Canada, Daisy Hairston, and four brothers, Maine, Charles, Martin, and Odis Dones.

Leana was united in Holy Matrimony to Gary Mitchell on September 12, 1963. To this union one child was born, Dyrell "Torry" Mitchell.

Leana was employed at Bi-State Development Agency until she retired June 1, 2006. Leana cherished her family and friends deeply. Her legacy of love and care will always be remembered.

Suddenly, without a warning, a light went out in this life and now shines forevermore in our hearts and Heaven above. On February 9, 2026, at 12:19 p.m. at Memorial Hospital of Belleville, Illinois, Leana started her new life.

Leana leaves to cherish her loving memory her dear son, Dyrell Mitchell, grandson, Alex Mitchell, two sisters, Rosie Washington and Mary (Mozell) Chaney, two brothers, Willie (Hildred) Dones, Lucious (Ida) Dones, two dear sisters-in-law, Ramona Dones, Annie Dones and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
