Obituary

Kim Woodfork came into the world singing, making noises her mother would say sounded like a seal. Her best friend simply told her, "No that baby is singing."

Born on January 25, 1960 in Saint Louis, Missouri, Kim was born to Samuel Woodfork and Lillie Woodfork (Haynes).

Kim was educated in the East Saint Louis School District 189 and graduated as a proud member of the Class 1978! Receiving her college degree was a great accomplishment, but she felt most honored to serve her country in the United States Army.

In her early years, she attended Newport C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of the later Elder J.P. Clemons. Kim and her sisters, known as the "Nelson Girls," would often go to other churches and events singing the gospel as representatives of the church. Serving under successor, the late Elder Norvell Woolfolk, Kim was blessed to open for artists such as Rance Allen, The O'Neal Twins, Walter Hawkins, Andre Crouch, and Zella Jackson Price, just to name a few. She would sing whenever she was asked. And when she didn't feel her best, she would encourage her children and grandchildren to join her in song, saying com'on Kim's Kids.

As a teenager, she dedicated her life to Christ. She became an ordained minister in 2004 and an ordained pastor in 2016. Her love and passion for the word of God showed in the life she lived. She did not have to be behind the pulpit to minister. She ministered wherever the need was. Utilizing social media platforms, often partnering with other churches around the country. Kim shared her love, compassion, and knowledge to all without hesitation.

Kim's faithfulness to God's purpose guided her to start her radio ministry broadcast for KSTL 690 for several years. She was an awesome businesswoman and incorporated two Companies, "Faithworks Intl Outreach Ministries." Dedicated to helping those in the community with food pantries, housing needs and transportation, and We Live Performing Arts and Skate Center.

If she could not help you get your own, she would give you hers. She was selfless and a stranger to none. Loved by many, she was a mother, pastor, friend, confidant, and an unpaid foster mother to many of her children's friends. She was also an avid lover of sports, mostly tennis, volleyball, track, game shows, and HGTV. Kim also loved to skate and dance. Just a few other attributes she passed on to her children.

Kim was diagnosed with cancer in April of 2016. She fought a courageous battle for 5 years. All the while continuing to preach the word of God even from her hospital bed. She transitioned on June 8, 2021 at Anderson Hospital.

She was preceded in death by both parents Samuel Woodfork, Lillie Nelson and her stepfather Clarence Nelson, her maternal grandmother Christine Hull and her paternal grandparents Pauline and Larke Broyles.

Kim was married to Dennis Green and to this union two daughters were born. She was married to Glenn Whitener Sr. and to this union two children were born. She was engaged to John Prothro (who preceded her in death), and to this union a son was born.

She leaves to cherish her memory: five children ~ Joi (Tremaine), Pam, Glenn (Cindy), Jahna (Lazeal), and Johnathan (Billie); seventeen grandchildren ~ Christopher, Tremaine Jr., William, Heaven, Cydney, Nyja, Ciara, Zariyah, Jaiden, Cymone, Tyler, Treydon, Taylor, Jordan, Chloe, Zoey, and Emery; sisters ~ Sophia (Barry), and Pam; nieces ~ Rana (Sherun), Genise, and Tracy (Jontae); nephew ~ Harold Walker, Jr; a special aunt ~ Lavada Nelson; uncle ~ Eugene Gardner Sr.; and mother in love Lillie P.
