Obituary

There are some people who presence fills every room they enter. Their smile is unforgettable, their laughter contagious, and their spirit impossible to replace. Joseph Bell Jordan III, affectionately known as "Joey," was one of those extraordinary people.

Joey's story began on February 20, 1970, from the very beginning, he was unique. An unforgettable entrance for a man who would leave an unforgettable mark on the lives of so many.

His educational journey reflected both his intelligence and determination. Joey began his early childhood education at Lessie Bates Daycare under the leadership of Corliss Byass before attending Shirley Ann Daycare on Page Avenue. He continued his education at Holy Name School through the sixth grade before earning a scholarship to attend St. Louis Priory School in West County. There, he flourished academically and athletically and graduated in 1988. His pursuit of excellence led him to Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 1992.

Although Joey initially worked with several architecture firms, including McCormick and McBride & Sons, he realized that his purpose extended beyond traditional career paths. Possessing an entrepreneurial spirit, he founded his own marketing firm, partnering with organizations such as Monsanto, Argosy Casino, and the Buzz Westfall Mall on the Boulevard. Yet even then, Joey continued searching for work that aligned with his passion and values.

That search led him to diversity, equity, and inclusion consulting, where his education, compassion, and talent for connecting with people came together -- and where he emerged as a community builder. Through his work, particularly with Nestle Purina and other corporations, Joey dedicated himself to helping people understand one another, build inclusive workplaces, and create opportunities where everyone could thrive. He believed deeply in the value of every person and found purpose in making a positive difference in the lives of others.

Throughout his career, Joey dedicated himself to creating opportunities, building connections, and uplifting others through his work. Even as organizational priorities evolved, he remained committed to serving others and finding meaningful ways to make a difference. His passion for helping people extended far beyond a profession -- it was a reflection of his character, his purpose, and his commitment to leaving the world better than he found it.

On June 26, 2026, Joey peacefully transitioned from this life, surrounded by the love, comfort, and support of family and friends, who will forever cherish the memories they shared with him. Joey has left behind a legacy of compassion, service, and unwavering dedication to others. Though his earthly journey came to an end, his impact continues to live on in the many lives he touched through his kindness, mentorship, and advocacy.

Joey's life reminds us that success is not measured solely by titles or accomplishments, but by the lives we touch, the compassion we extend, and the love we leave behind. His infectious smile, thoughtful conversations, generous heart, and larger-than-life personality will continue to live on in every story shred, every laugh remembered, and every life he inspired.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted mother, Marsha Akins; his father, Joseph B. Jordan Jr. (Ellice); siblings, Jeanette Jordan and Jovone Jordan (Kamilah); nephew, D'Andre' Lockett; nieces, Jayla and Jaleigha Jordan; his partner, Jasmine Chen who loved him dearly. He also leaves behind countless extended family members, friends, colleagues, and loved ones whose lives were forever enriched by his kindness, wisdom, humor, and generous spirit.
