Mrs. Johnetta Humphries was born on June 10, 1947 in St. Louis, MO to the union of Calvin Humphries, Sr. and Marion (LeRoy) Humphries. She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at Morning Star Baptist Church under Pastor Garfield Hubbard. Johnetta never moved from the metro east, going to school in District 189 and graduating.

Johnetta joined the workforce, initially working for attorneys, taking shorthand in the courtroom for cases. She worked several years at Scott Air Force Base. Finally she decided to go back to school to do what she always wanted to do, helping people. She completed her studies to become a LPN, Licensed Practical Nurse. She retired from St. Mary's Hospital in East St. Louis. She also worked in the Wellness Center with Dr. Andrias and Dr. Ampadu. Along life's journey, Johnetta met her soulmate, Leanders Bowman. They were together for many years, before they married in May 2019. Mr. Bowman preceded her in death, October 21, 2023. Other family members to precede her in death, included her parents, her brothers, Calvin, Jr. and Eric Humphries and her sister, Linda Humphries.

Family was important to Johnetta and she loved spending time with everyone, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Johnetta departed this life on August 14, 2025 in the comfort of her home with family. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Marchelle Humphries, Patrick Humphries, Neidra Humphries and Tamara Humphries; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Manley Humphries, Gwendolyn Humphries, Sandra Gilliam (Herbert), Stanley Humphries and Nicole Humphries; numerous other relatives and friends.
