John Arthur Stepney, Jr was born on June 26, 1943 in East St. Louis, Illinois to Chester John Arthur Stepney and Rose Stepney. He was fifth out of 8 siblings. He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age. He received his education through District #189 and was a life long resident.

John married Lillie Mae Anderson and to this union two children were born, Michael Anderson of Belleville, Illinois, April Bevely of O'Fallon, Illinois. He was employed with Hunter's Packing Company, Nash Funeral Home, Emerson Park Development, Clyde C. Jordan and Whelan Security Company.

John Stepney departed this life on February 10, 2017 in East St. Louis, Illinois. He is preceded in death by his loving mother, Rose Stepney, father, Chester John Arthur Stepney, sisters, Norman Jean Stepney, Dessie Watts and Andria Stepney, and brother, Eddie B. Stepney.

John leaves to cherish his memories, his children, Michael Anderson of Belleville, IL and April (Rory) Bevely of O'Fallon, IL; five grandchildren, Anita Anderson of CA, Don-necia Anderson of Lakewood, WA, Stephen Shanklin of O'Fallon, IL, Michael Anderson of Lakewood, WA and Edward Stringer, III of O'Fallon, Il; sisters, Azalean M. Smith of St. Louis, MO, Sireatha Cathion of Milwaukee, WI and Hazel Stepney of Edwardsville, IL; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
John enjoyed serving and helping anyone he came in contact with. He had a heart of love and compassion for people.
