On June 13, 1948 , In St. Louis, MO, the late parents Basking and Guestullar Gettis, became proud parents to another son, who they names Jessie Gettis.

Jessie was educated in School District 189, East St. Louis, IL. Jessie decided his life goal was to join the Army. He was discharged on July 1, 1974.

Jessie attended church with his mother and his sister, Rosie. Jessie is preceded in death by all of his immediate family.

Jessie is survived by one sister-in-law, Mrs. Ruby Gettis of East St. Louis, IL; two nieces, Minister LaDonna (Larry) Thurston of St. Louis, MO; Mrs. Karen (Minister Curtis Pearson) of East St. Louis, IL; two nephews, Archie Gettis of St. Louis, MO and Mr. Henry Gipson of Cleveland, OH; special cousin Earl Gettis of East St. Louis, IL; cousins, friends, special neighbor Mrs. Mary Phiffer, and many other neighbors in East St. Louis, IL.
