Jeanne Marie Allen Faulkner was born July 8, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri at City Hospital NO#2 to the union of W.K. Allen and Addie Marie Holbrook Allen. Her parents, two brothers and one sister preceded her in death. Her husband, Maxwell Earl Faulkner also preceded her in death.
At an early age she gave her life to Christ and was baptized at Shiloh A.M.E. Church. She was a faithful and dedicated member, serving her church dutifully in all capacities.
Jeanne attended Dunbar Elementary School, graduated from Lincoln Sr. High School in 1947, and received her bachelor's degree from Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee.
Jeanne began her teaching career at Washington Elementary School as a 2nd grade teacher. She eventually taught English at Lincoln Sr. High School. In 1966, she was transferred to East St. Louis Senior High School where she taught History and English until her retirement in 1988.
In 1965, Jeanne married the love of her life, Maxwell Earl Faulkner, and this union was blessed with one son, Alan Earl Faulkner.
Jeanne was a community activist and helped to integrate the businesses on Collinsville Ave. in East St. Louis in the 1960's. She was a member of numerous civic organizations, who respected her knowledge as the unofficial historian of East St. Louis. She was a devoted member and past president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. East St. Louis Alumnae Chapter. She enjoyed her membership in the Bridge Club (50 years) and the 5 Up Club (50 years).
Jeanne leaves to cherish her memory: a loving and devoted son ~ Alan; as well as her adored grandchildren ~ Alana Faulkner and Alan R. Holmes; great-grandchildren ~ Adrion Jones and Sylas Faulkner; two very loved god daughters ~ Gail Hudson Hankins and Lena Edley-Dye; her dear friends ~ Delores Hudson, Elouise Edwards, and Maxine Mason; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and Sorors of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
