Ida Mae
Gist
Feb 2, 1938 — Aug 9, 2026
Today, we celebrate the life of Ida Mae Gist. She was born Ida Mae Hibbler, on February 2, 1938, in Shuqualak, Mississippi to Towanza and Lillie Hibbler (who preceded her in death). She was the third and only daughter of four children blessed to this union. Dave and Larry preceded her in death.
Ida confessed a hope in Christ at an early age. She was educated in East St. Louis School District #189. In 1955, Ida married Edward Gist. To this union eight children were born: Sheila, Yolunda, Edward, Michael, Carlos, Marcus, Esther and Andrea. Edward and Michael preceded their mother in death.
Ida worked as a beautician and had a high-volume clientele in the Metro East Area. She was known for giving press and curls, finger waves, and giving Senior Women a blue rinse to change their silver hair to a glowing “Blue Halo”, etc.
Ida lived her life with joy and love.
On August 9, 2026, God called and she answered. She’s home now and resting in the comfort of the Father. Her memories continue to comfort her children, Sheila Yolunda, Carlos, Marcus, Esther, and Andrea; one brother, Howard Hibbler; a very special childhood friend, Sylvia Haymore, sixteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
