Gilbert S.
Perry
Jun 9, 1922 — Nov 9, 2024
Gilbert Sidney Perry was born June 9, 1922 in Lee County, Arkansas to Jim Blaine Perry ad Ella Booker Perry. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior many years ago. At age 16, and after the passing of his mother, he moved to East St. Louis, IL and remained there until his passing.
"Gill" enlisted in the U.S. Army and shared many military service experiences which included traveling. After his military involvement, he returned to East St. Louis and married Hattie Powell who preceded him in death. They adopted one son, James "Jimmy" Perry, who also preceded him in death.
Gilbert worked or Swift Meat Packing Company and remained there until he was discharged.
He loved his family and demonstrated that love as he always kept in touch through phone calls or visits. In fact, his legacy included the fact that he had been given credit for ensuring that a family reunion is held every two years. He attended each one wherever it was held. Thanks to Uncle Gilbert.
Another outstanding characteristic about Gilbert is that he loved to travel. He traveled all across the United States and abroad. He visited relatives and friends wherever he went. He later began to travel with a close companion, Marcella Donald, who also loved to travel. Together, they took to airways, highways, in and out of the country. Marcella also preceded him in death.
Gill leaves to cherish his memories, Gencie Perkins, a longtime friend and companion, godson, Lance Barron, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
