Obituary

Freddy Perkins, Sr. was born one of six children to the union of Ernest Perkins, Sr. and Lucille Perkins on August 10, 1931 in East St. Louis, Illinois. He attended the public school of East Saint Louis and served in the United States Army, receiving an Honorable Discharge and being awarded the Korean Service Ribbon, Bronze Service Star, United States Service Medal National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.

Upon being discharged from the United States Army, Freddy relocated to Aurora, Illinois. It was there that he met Berdia Mae Brisco and they were united in marriage. To this union two sons were born, Kenneth and Freddy Jr.

Freddy was employed as a Welder for Barber Green Manufacturing, where he retired after over twenty years of service. Freddy loved music, especially Jazz. He occupied his free time with his passion of watching Westerns on television.

In 1979, Freddy married Elder Glenda Fowler (Da King). To this union, two sons were born, Frederick and Travis.

In 1990, Freddy relocated to the East St. Louis area. It was here that he met and married Denise Lowery in 1998.

After a lengthy illness, Freddy passed peacefully on August 3, 2022 at 8:11 a.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and four brothers. He leaves to mourn: his wife ~ Denise Lowery Perkins; four sons ~ Kenneth (Toby) Perkins, Freddy Perkins, Jr. Travis (Elizabeth) Perkins and Frederick (Cassandra) Perkins; four stepchildren ~ Sheri Lowery, Jina Tweed, Miya (Tony) Gilmore and Sean Lowery; twelve grandchildren; twelve step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister ~ Gencie Mae Perkins; as well as a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
