Obituary

Vickie Maxine Keyes-Wood was born August 18, 1947 in St. Louis, Missouri to the Victor Ajax Keyes and Cleola Lewis Keyes. Vickie was the first born of three children. Her parents, brother, Randy Elva Keyes and son-in-law, Marshall J.L. Chester preceded her in death.

Vickie was a life-long resident of East Saint Louis, Illinois receiving her formal education from East St. Louis School District #189 graduating from Lincoln Senior High School.

On March 28, 1965, Vickie was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Curtis Odell Wood. To this union three children were born.

Vickie was desirous of knowledge and decided to continue her education by attending State Community College and receiving her AAS in Sociology and BS in Sociology from Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville, IL. Vickie also received her BS and Master's Degrees in Theology from the International College of Bible Theology. Vickie had just completed her Dissertation with a 10 part questionnaire to be completed in order to receive her PHD in Theology when her health failed.

Vickie confessed hope in Christ at an early age and this is why. One day after leaving Sunday School at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, she headed to the candy store. She stopped and looked up at the sky and a Voice asked, " Who made the sky ?" Her reponse, " God ." The Voice asked, " Who made the trees ?" She said, " God ." And this continued in this fashion; " Who made the grass ?" She said, " God ." " Who made you ?" Her answer, " You did ." " Who told you tha t?" She answered nobody, then she said, " God ." Vickie said, then God said, " Go play, I have something for you to do when you grow up ."

Later, as a young adult, Vickie reaffirmed her faith in Christ receiving water baptism in Jesus' name and the infilling of Holy Spirit in 1968 at Lively Stone Church of God. She joined Gospel Feast Pentecostal Church in St. Louis, Missouri. She served under the leadership of Bishop Arvell Garrett. She relocated her membership to Community Gospel Feast Church in Rush City, Illinois serving under the leadership of Bishop James Hall. It was here Vickie got her start teaching the Word of God at Sunday School and on the second Sunday of every month for Missionary Day. Vickie was a devoted, well informed, eloquent teacher of the Holy Scriptures. A faithful member loved by her church family. Vickie was the kind of member every pastor would love to have.

In 1980, Vickie joined Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder William Scott. Vickie served as Sunday School Teacher, Prayer and Bible Band Teacher, Missionary and District #8 Dean for Illinois Southeast Jurisdiction until her health failed.

Evangelist Vickie M. Wood departed this life on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 . She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Tressa Wood-Royston, Vedette Wood-Chester and Josette (Dale) Wood-Owens; one bonus daughter, Darnicia Wood-Moffett; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Minister Veletta M.
