Eva
Terrell
Dec 28, 1942 — Feb 23, 2022
I was born December 28, 1942 in Holly Springs, Mississippi to the union of Andrew Faulkner Sr. and Lura Jefferies Faulkner. To this beautiful union I was number six of seven children born to this union; Celia Mae, Willie Adams, Eliza Maxine, Andrew Jr., Glennie Luberta, Eva Louise & John Douglas. Both my parents and all my siblings preceded me in death. The family moved to East St. Louis June 1943 when I was six months old. Our family moved into the newly built John Robinson Homes.
I received my formal education from East St. Louis Public School System. I attended Washington Elementary School, Hughes Quinn Jr. High and graduated from Lincoln Senior High in 1961. While attending Lincoln Senior High and participating in the school's marching band, I won a first-place medal in the State of Illinois while performing in a Drum Major competition.
After high school I enrolled and graduated from Mildred Louise Business College in 1972. I worked as an Office Manager at Lowe's Enterprise and for the East St. Louis Crusader as a typesetter for three years until I could do no longer work due to my physical disability.
As a young girl I united with Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church at the age of twelve and was baptized by Pastor Garfield Hubbard.
At the age of fifteen, I joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and joined the Senior Usher Ministry because I was too tall to join the youth ushers. Mrs. Mooreland was president at the time. I was 5'8 at the time and have been active with the Usher's Ministry ever since. At the time Thelma Clark was an instructor with the Senior Usher Ministry and taught me everything that she knew, and I passed it down it our now President Joan Richmond, her daughter.
As a faithful member at Mt. Zion, I would often teach Sunday School lesson for Senior Ministry on Tuesday. I was active in the Sunday School Class #45, served as Secretary of the Usher Ministry for about 35 years off and on, and currently. Serve with New Salem District ushers was active with Baptist General State Convention Usher Auxiliary and served as an instructor during the state usher workshops for about three years.
My hobbies included skating when I could (thanks to Leo), watching movies, shopping and eating watermelon.
I loved to decorate indoors and outdoors. I could make my house look like a mini castle. I loved to cook and entertain family and friends. In the backyard I loved to have backyard parties, having swimming pools in the summer for the children, tell jokes and east delicious potato salad.
Once I make up my mind to do something, nothing could change my mind BUT the Good Lord.
I love my Mt. Zion Church family, love to Mr. Leslie Terrell III, and love to Mr. James Campbell (deceased).
I was blessed to be under the Shepherd's care of these anointed men of God: Rev. Garfield Hubbard, Pastor W.B. Rouse, Rev. C. Cedric Claiborne, Rev. John Henry Rouse and Pastor Curtis Levingston.
I leave to cherish my memories with my four considerate and kindhearted children that I was blessed to mother Leslie (Franchelle), Tammi, Douglas, KImbella, and James Terrell. A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. A host of nieces and nephews (two special nieces Delaney Hicks-Patterson and Quandra Roman). I leave nehind many cousins, especially the Hilliard gang who I treated like my brothers and sisters. There were six young ladies that grew up together from Kindergarten to high school without one disagreement: Gwendolyn Reeves Pirtle, Fredericka Gandy (deceased), and me, "FRIENDS FOR LIFE." I leave my memories with Mt. Zion MBC, especially the Usher ministry. Also, to cherish my memories are Connie Thomas and Tracy Hamilton.
