Obituary

Evangelist Ethel Lee Moore Maggard Ayers made her entrance into the Earth on November 7, 1948 in St. Louis, Missouri to the union of the late Mr. Wilbert and Mrs. Willie Mae Moore. She was the second of 13 children born to this union.
Ethel professed her hope and faith in Christ at an early age. She was baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ under the leadership of her grandfather, the late Elder Luther Moore, Sr., pastor of Church of God Pentecostal in East St. Louis, IL. Throughout her spiritual tutelage, she sat under the
pastorates of Bishop Herbert Clark, Elder Edward Payne, Elder Eugene Cox, Elder James Pittman, and Bishop Willie Mosby.
Ethel received her formal education in the East St. Louis School District and later in life obtained several vocational certificates. In 1964, she married Luther Maggard, and to this union was born two children, Ulanda and Santos. In 1972, she married David Ayers, Sr. From this union were born two sons,
David, Jr. and Prince. Ethel was one that feared God and loved to rejoice in the Lord in her dance. In 1975,she accepted her calling into the ministry. She was a local evangelist and teacher of the Word of God formore than 25 years until her health no longer permitted in 2001.

Ethel strongly believed in supporting her family. As a family matriarch, she not only had the interests of her immediate family at heart but also those of her siblings, nieces, nephews, and others. Hergenerosity and concern for others was a fulfillment of Proverbs 3:27, which admonishes all believers to
"Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it." As such, she maintained an open door policy and a standing invitation to those in need.
Ethel was a vibrant and vivacious soul, who possessed a characteristically humorous persona.
She was often found to be the life of the party. One could not help but laugh in her presence, as her jovial
spirit ignited any atmosphere. Affectionately known as "Esther" by close family, Saints, and friends, she
was a woman of many vocational and domestic talents, including haute couture, interior design and decorating, among others.
As a fashionista of sorts, she took delight in the appearance of herself and family. As a lover of hats,
she rarely left her home without a hat dawning her crown, regardless of the occasion. Her favorite pastimes
included reading and studying the Word of God, sewing, and–as a virtuous woman of God–maintaining
her family and home. Ethel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and–most
importantly–a steadfast disciple of Christ.

Ethel Ayers departed this life on October 14, 2017 and went home to r est in the Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbert and Willie Moore; 4 sisters: Ida Wilkins, Carolyn Moore
Bohannon, Lela Moore, and Doris Patterson; 1 brother, Tony Moore. Left to cherish her memories are 1
daughter: Ulanda Sherrell (Keith) Lloyd; 3 sons: Santos Maggard, David Ayers, Jr., and Prince
(Naomi) Ayers; 11 brothers: Willie (Auntreanita) Moore, Wilbert Moore, Derrick (Cynthia) Moore, Gregory

loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear Saints and friends.
This is the life and legacy of Evangelist Ethel Lee Ayers, whose presence will be sorely missed.
She impacted many souls, whose lives have all the more been enriched by knowing the evangelist,
who ministered in the Word of God and also in deed. We are left behind as a testament that her life
and labor were not in vain, as our lives represent the harvest from the seeds she had sown.
