Elaine
Harmon
Dec 15, 1954 — Aug 8, 2018
belleville
Elaine began her life's journey on December 15, 1954 . She was the sixth of 13 children born to the union of William Pruitt and Barbara (Crosby) Pruitt.
She began her education at Garrison Elementary School in Centreville IL. ( Elaine never wanted to miss a day of school). From elementary school, she continued in the Cahokia School District, graduating from Cahokia High School. After receiving her high school diploma, Elaine decided to pursue training in clerical skills at Manpower in East St. Louis, IL.
Armed with the certificate she received from Manpower, she obtained a clerical position with the East Side Health District, working in the Women, Infant and Children department where she earned the nickname " The WIC Lady ". After more than 25 years with the Health District, illness forced her into early retirement.
After graduating high school, Elaine married John Harmon, and to this union was born a daughter Celeste, and two sons John Jr. and Sean.
As a child, she was a fun-loving tomboy. She often played baseball and other games with the guys and out performed many of them, once breaking her pinkie finger in a game of baseball.
Elaine had a beautiful welcoming smile and never met a stranger. Her personality gained many lifelong friends, one of whom was a childhood friend, Jackie Gambrel, who she recently reunited with and they just picked up right where they left off. They spent many hours shopping and sharing memories of earlier times.
Another of her dear friends was Linda Bogay. Linda was first a friend, but also became her caregiver both at home and while Elaine was in the Four Fountains Nursing Care Center in Belleville. She greatly improved the quality of Elaine's life. Linda spent many hours with Elaine just sharing life and the good times with her.
Elaine's passion were food, shopping and talking on the phone. She could talk non-stop, and much of the conversation would be about food. She almost never ended a conversation without asking what was on your stove for the day.
As a child, several times a week, her mom "drug" her and her many siblings and friends to church at Full Gospel Church of God In Christ in Centreville, Illinois. The pastor at that time was Elder James Howard. The current leadership is Pastor Thomas McMath, Jr. Upon becoming a teen, as many of us will, she strayed from the way. However, by the Grace of God, she surrendered her life to the Lord about a year ago at the Lighthouse of Hope Church in Belleville, Illinois, under the leadership of Pastor Byron E. Thompson. She often spoke of how in her quiet times and waking hours she would realize that she would be filled with prayer for her loved ones.
On August 8, 2018 , after a lengthy and difficult bout with illness, the Lord Jesus took her from her broken body to her Heavenly home.
Elaine was preceded in death by one son, Sean Harmon, her parents, William and Barbara Pruitt, siblings, Michael, Arvelle, Ronald, William, Edward, and Christian.
She leaves to lovingly cherish her memory, one daughter, Celeste Pruitt of Centreville, IL, one son, John Jr., of Centreville, IL; seven sisters, Lorraine (Lloyd) Harper of Swansea, IL, Patricia (Oliver) Fallon of Belleville, IL, Jo Etta Pruitt of Centreville, IL, Angela (James) Hurt of Belleville, IL, Melody Pruitt of Cahokia, IL, Vontisha Williams of Centreville, IL and Iesha (Clifford) Leflore; two brothers, Frederick Pruitt of Alorton, IL and Stephen Pruitt of Alorton, IL; three sisters-in-law, Ann (Arvelle Pruitt) Paxton, Renee (Edward) Pruitt, and Dorothy (Ronald) Pruitt; Brothers-in-law, Oliver Fallon, James Hurt and Clifford Leflore; six grandchildren; a host of loving nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
