Edna Beatrice Jones, AKA Aunt Edna was born January 11, 1923 to the parents of W.T. and Lillie (Cobbler) Jackson of Gregory, Arkansas. Her parents moved to Madison, Illinois in 1923. She was the fourth of six children. One brother, Richard Harold Cobbler of Madison, IL, three sisters, Betty Holiday of East St. Louis, IL, Willie (Ethel) James of Madison, IL and Samella Shipp of Madison, IL all preceded her in death.
Aunt Edna met and mattied Tellis Jones in 1944, who also preceded her in death. She was educated at Dunbar School of Madison, Illinois. She joined church under the pastorate of Rev. Lawrence Shipp and later joined New Salem Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Brown where she was a faithful member and a member of the Senior Choir until her health began to fail her.
Aunt Edna owned and operated her beauty shop from home for many years. While working the Senior Aid Program, she was assigned to many organizations throughout the Madison and Venice area. She worked at Venice High School, Catholic Charity, Coordinated Youth and Madison Middle School just to name a few. Her very good friends were Mother Rivers, Ms. Geneva Dennis, Ms. Darnice Franklin and Vernida.
On Thursday, November 3, 2016, Aunt Edna made her transition to her new home. She leaves to mourn her death and cherish her memories a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. She will be truly missed.
