Obituary

Eddie "Simroy" Golliday, was born June 4, 1942 in Grenada, Mississippi to the union of J.C. Golliday and I.V. nee Hankins Golliday. He transitioned this life peaceably with his beloved wife, Irma, his children, grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews surrounding him and holding vigil at 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Illinois. He was educated in East St. Louis School District #189 public school system and he also attended the Evelyn Woods Learning Center as an adult. Eddie accepted his faith in Christ at an early age.

Eddie was a profound mechanic, maintenance man and businessman. He started Golliday Rentals over 35 years ago and has owned over 100 rental properties and flipped many houses. He and his wife owned and operated Alorton Hardware and Golliday's "Catch of the Day". He was employed for over 30 years at Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company in St. Louis, MO and achieved the coveted position of Maintenance Mechanic, being the first and only black maintenance man to ever be hired at that location. Eddie retired from Pepsi-Cola and joined his wife at the East St. Louis Park District as a sea-sonal Maintenance Manager, a position he enjoyed until his death. His love for work was deeply embedded in his strong character. His work ethic was unquestionable, being taught at a young age by his father to be a hard, dependable and thorough employee. He had sincerely loved working with his maintenance crew and keeping the parks beautiful.
.
Eddie was a loving husband, loving father and family patriarch, outspoken, strict, caring and had a sense of humor that all who met him enjoyed. Eddie left his family with a legacy of his sincere love, honest and hardworking character which should carry throughout his lineage. He could build "something from nothing" and always had a "name" for people whose friendship he enjoyed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and I.V. Golliday, other loving parents, Olivia Golliday and Jessie Golliday, son, Cordell, brothers Jimmie, Roscoe, and Will Golliday, sisters Lela Bell Sally, Jessie Lee Ballard and Ruth Cook, a special mother/aunt, Dora Bonds, grandson Monte Golliday and granddaughters Brittany Golliday and baby Tiara Golliday.

He leaves to cherish his memory and mourn his departure, his loving wife of over 40 years, Irma nee McSwain, sons Antwyne (Monique), and Dwayne of Cahokia, Calvin (Lola) of Belleville and Alvin (Delores) of Centreville, daughters Annette (Thomas) Hill of Centreville, Laura Ann Golliday of Springfield, MO and Elesia (Darian) Brown of Alorton, IL.
