Donald
Lewis
Jun 26, 1949 — May 14, 2022
On June 26, 1949 , in Macon, Mississippi, Tate Tippet and Willie Mae Long was blessed with a son, Donald Edward Lewis . His mother, his son, Robert Lewis and his sister, Mary Coleman preceded him in death. Don confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and was raised up in a Christian faith. He reaffirmed his hope and believed in Christ and the love of God throughout life.
Donald attended and excelled in District #189 schools in East St. Louis and trade schools.
He was employed a welder, electrician, and then as a maintenance mechanic before he retired from working. His last job was his dream job - He was working in a nursing home completing repairs and bringing laugher to the sick and shut-in.
Don was a natural comedian, a fun loving person who loved to tell funny stories and jokes. He would always keep those around him laughing. He made a new friend every time he met someone with his winning smile, funny stories, and his willingness to help anyone. He was a family man who loved his family and his dogs. His friends and their families became his family as well. His heart was big as his extended family.
He loved sports, football, basketball, golfing and fishing, especially bass fishing. He really enjoyed the outdoors, ice skating, working on cars, fishing, camping, hanging out with his friends and family, and telling his funny stories.
Donald Lewis became ill on April 8, 2022 and remained incapacitated until his demise on May 14, 2022 when he heeded the Master's call. Again, he boldly declared his hope in Christ and the fact that he was not afraid before his transition.
Donald Edward Lewis leaves to cherish his memories - three children, Shannon (Philip) Lewis, Reginald Holden and Ronald Lewis; three sisters, Lynda Dunn of Caseyville, IL, Beatrice Porter of Belleville, IL , and Deborah L. Giles of Chicago, IL; four brothers, Jesse (Martha) Robinson of Maplewood, Missouri, James Long of Chicago, IL, Leroy (Dudley) Robinson of Macon, Mississippi and Edward (Rose) McCloud of Florida; eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
