Obituary

Dexter Bruce Lang began his earthly life on April 3, 1952. He was the third child born to Jim and Priscilla Lang.

Dexter was educated in East St. Louis District #189, graduating from East Side High in 1970. He earned an Associate Degree from Parkland College in Champaign, IL. Dexter pursued additional education and received his Bachelor's degree from SIU Edwardsville, IL in 1977.

Dexter held a variety of positions throughout his working career. Even though his primary employment was with Alton & Southern Railroad. Dex also worked for Norfolk Southern Railroad, Park Mark, Paving, Whelan Security, Dillard's, and SIUE. His entrepreneurial spirit further led him to invest in real estate previously holding residential property in East St. Louis and Washington Park.

Dexter met his future wife, Cathy, through mutual friends while attending SIUE. After several years of courtship, Dex and Cathy were married on Thanksgiving morning on November 1983. They were blessed to become parents of Vincent and Briana.

Dexter's senior years were met with declining health due to severe heart conditions. His physical mobility became extremely limited. In spite of this, Dexter had certain pastimes that he refused to give up such as eating his favorite Chinese food, drinking Stag beer, attending East Side High Football games, and taking his grandson to Sky View Drive-In Theatre.

Having been involved with the Lutheran Church since childhood, Dexter would frequently return to Unity Lutheran Church for special events. He would also be in attendance on some Sundays to hear God's word at New Life in Christ in O'Fallon, IL and New Life Community in East St. Louis, IL.

Dexter went home to be with his heavenly Father on April 22, 2026. He is now with his parents and older brother who preceded him in death.

Dexter will be truly missed by his family and many childhood friends who grew into adulthood with him. Dexter leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of nearly 43 years, Cathy; two children, Vincent and Briana; grandson, Kyrie Davis; one sister, Sheila Lang; two brothers, Marcus and Gary Lang; two uncles, Nolan and Larry Welch; sister-in-law, Shirley Hampton; nephews, Andra and Marlon Lang; nieces, Precious, Christine, Erica, and Ashley; Gillespie Family of Tupelo, Mississippi; special cousins, "Vanilla" and "Goody"; great friends, "Bo", "BT", Verdell, and many more relatives.
