Obituary

Cynthia a.k.a. "Cymp" or "Lil Bit" Denise Douglas returned to God on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO surrounded by her family. Cynthia was born to the union of James and Callie (McNeese) Douglas on September 18, 1957, in St. Louis, MO. Cynthia was greeted at the heavenly gates by her mother and family, James & Callie, four sisters, Dorothy, Mary, Jaunita, Sherry, and four brothers, Juan, William, Clifford, Keith, two nieces, Jy'Nell and Reisha, two nephews, Arthur (Junior) and Andre, and her heavenly granddaughter, Zoey.

Cynthia confessed Christ and was baptized at a young age. At that time, she was down south in Grenada, Mississippi, alongside her older siblings.

Cynthia was a graduates of East Saint Louis Senior High School, Class of 1977. She attended HBCU Rust College in Holly Springs, Mississippi, where she joined the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority in the spring of 1978. After leaving Rust College, Cynthia decided to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. After the birth of the children, she then decided to become a stay-at-home mom, which allowed her to be available for her children while they were attending school. Cynthia was a hands-on mom with her children, having to be available for things like attending three graduations in one day, without a vehicle, mind you, she did not drive. Once her children were of age to get themselves up and ready for school, she then decided to get back into the workforce, where she became a Security Officer for Metro Transit until she retired in 2022 to spend more time with her family.

Cynthia was a very skilled spades player, and if anyone knows that she an Jaunita are gong to clear everyone from the table. Cynthia had a green thumb; she always loved having a house full of plants. She was excellent cook; she loved making meals with her daughters. One thing about Cynthia, she had a love for any type of puzzle and her fish. Once she became a grandmother, there was not one event that her grandchildren could look out into the crowd, and she was not there for. She enjoyed showing off her fish tanks whenever her grandkids came over, smiling while they enjoyed them.

Cynthia was loved and cherished by everyone who knew her; her laugh was infectious, her smile was so big and bright, though her spirit would be kindly missed.

Cynthia's legacy leaves behind four children, DeMario Douglas of Cahokia Heights, IL, Tiffany Douglas of St. Louis, MO, LaToya Douglas of Cahokia Heights, IL, Crystal (Michael) Gray of Granite City, IL, and five grandchildren, LaMarques, Z'Ryiah, Caylee, Vada, and Anthony. Her surviving siblings are Henry Lee Campbell of Memphis, TN, Darlene (Anthony) Vickers of Bloomington, IL, James (Carla) Douglas of Belleville, IL, Princella Douglas of Belleville, IL, a brother-in-law, Bernard Bolden of Cahokia Heights, IL, a sister-in-law, Marsha Douglas of Belleville, IL and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
