Christine
Holmes
Jul 20, 1951 — Jul 19, 2022
Christine Holmes was born in East St. Louis, Illinois on July 20, 1951 to Thelma and Albert Rushing. She grew up in Rush City and attended public schools in East St. Louis, District #189.
Ms. Holmes confessed her faith at an early age under the teaching of the late Reverend Richard Cosey at Pilgrim Green Missionary Baptist Church.
Ms. Holmes had a loving and nurturing spirit. When her name was mentioned, the response was always, "That's My Girl." She was the one that everyone could rely on in the time of trouble. Ms. Holmes opened her home, so many could receive a home cooked meal, words of encouragement, a place to rest your head or to just sit around and kick it. Many of her nieces and nephews have fond memories of always being at her house and how she made them feel as if they were her favorite. They had loving nicknames for her such as "Lil Mimi," Aunty Chrissy," "Boss Lady" and "Diva." Ms. Holmes was the baby of the family that stood under five feet tall but was quick to let you know she was in charge. She gave everyone the love they wanted along with the discipline that was needed. Ms. Holmes touches so many hearts during her tour on earth and will truly be missed.
Ms. Holmes peacefully departed this life on July 19, 2022 . Ms. Holmes was preceded in death by her mother and father; two sons, Kenderick and Steven; four brothers, Joseph, Willie B., Albert Lee and Willie C.; five sisters, Freddie Lee, Alberta, Thelma, Betty and Annie; and one grandson, Steven "Tanky."
