Christine Washington was born on January 29, 1935 in Rueville, MS to Ben & Rebecca Washington. Christine Clemons was called to rest in her eternal home, to be with the Lord, on Monday (January 18, 2021) in St. Clair County, IL.
Christine accepted Christ at a young age. She united with Mt. Olive Baptist Church in East St. Louis, IL in her adult years, serving on the Usher Board. She later united with St. John Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Health Unit. She was educated in the East St. Louis School system.
Chris was married to Milton Clemons in East St. Louis, IL. She was employed at St. Mary's Hospital in East St. Louis, IL, Edison Brothers, and Whelan Security of St. Louis, MO. She had many passions, which included: serving the Lord, reading her bible, cooking, traveling, bingo and spending time with her Children, Grandchildren, and Great Grandchildren. She was a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, and would often be seen watching their games, and cheering her team to victory.
Christine leaves to cherish her memory; one sister Amelia Washington, Dallas, TX; three sons, Dexter (Sarita) Smith, Edwardsville, IL, Ronnie N. Smith, San Antonio, TX, and Earl A. Johnson II, Hannibal, MO; two daughters, Reba H. Burns (Larry Tubbs) Flint, MI, Deborah M. Parker, East St. Louis, IL; two granddaughters Dr. Eboni C. Janaury of St. Louis, MO and Shanta Johnson, Mississippi; nine grandsons, Reginald (Davidra) Smith, Florissant, MO, Daniel E. January I, Denver, CO, Christopher (Daisy) Smith, San Antonio, TX, Tyrone (Julia) Smith, Germany; Jason Smith, Edwardsville, IL, Justin Smith, St. Louis, MO, Earl A. Johnson III, East St. Louis, IL, Jordache Johnson and Marcus Johnson both of Mississippi; fourteen great grandchildren, Reginae C. Smith, Jared Washington, Jeremiah A. Higgins-Cooper, Jaylen Smith, Christine Smith, Christopher Smith Jr, Dhyonna January, Daniel E. January II, Danaiya January, Emoni Johnson, Caleb Smith, Cameron Smith, Daichelle San Nicolas, and Izaiya San Nicolas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including her church family, St. John Missionary Baptist Church Centreville, IL.
Christine was preceded in death by her parents and brother Henry L. Washington, and special cousin Bessie Lou Franklin
Chris will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
