Mr. Charles Williams was born on April 2, 1952 in St. Louis, MO at St. Mary's Infirmary. Charles was the ninth of 10 children born to the union of Mr. and Mrs. Louis and Eolus Williams of Newport, Arkansas.
Both parents preceded him in death as well as siblings, Janie Williams, Willie Jean Plumer, James Williams, Nathaniel Williams, Robert Williams, and Cleo N. Williams. Charles accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Charles attended Garrison Elementary School, Hughes Quinn Jr. High and completed his education at Lincoln Sr. High School in East St. Louis, IL Class of '71'.
Charles was skilled in repairing things and completing projects. One of his first jobs was working in maintenance for Southwestern Bell (Ma Bell) in East St. Louis, IL. Other jobs included working at the St. Clair County Country Club in Belleville, IL and the Continental Grain Company in East St. Louis, IL, Grain/Barge Operations.
Charles enjoyed dressing in style and and music of all genres. His sense of humor and unassuming nature made him a pleasure to be around. One of Charles' favorite endeavors was the field of performing arts. He won a number of dance and vocal contests throughout his school years and beyond. Charles partnered with childhood friends Sylvester Cook and Stacy Reynolds becoming the Skylarks. The performed at talent shows, civic organizations, and special occasion requests.
Darrell Merriweather and Norman Travis joined the group forming "Majik". Majik headlined at the Blackmon's Buckingham Nite Club and they also performed at the Galloways Limelite Nite Club and other venues. Charles had a range that flowed from first tenor, to baritone, to bass. Three of his favorite songs were "I Truly Believe" by Melvin Franklin, "I Like It" by El DeBarge and "Me And Mrs. Jones" by Billy Paul.
Mr. Charles Williams departed this life on March 2, 2023. He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory, two sisters, Elizabeth Harold and Jeanette Williams, and a brother Larry (Garnetta) Williams, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
