Charles
Riles
Nov 30, 1954 — Sep 24, 2019
The Angel of Silence visited Charles Edward Darrell Riles, 64, taking him home on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, 1:12 p.m. at St. Mary's Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
Charles was born to Gladys A. Riles ad Frank Scott on November 30, 1954, at Homer G. Phillips Hospital of St. Louis, MO. He was the sixth child of Gladys A. (Riles) Smith. Mr. Riles confessed his love for Christ and was baptized at St. Peter's House of Prayer in 1968.
Charles attended Turner Middle School and Sumner High School. In 1980, he moved to Burlington, IA. He returned to St. Louis in 2013. Charles was self employed. He worked in lawn care, moving companies, and painting homes. He was a jack of many trades who enjoyed keeping himself busy and earning his own way. He met many people through his work, quickly becoming someone they could count on to complete odd jobs. He loved working, sometimes doing it for free, and teaching others how to provide for themselves in the same way.
Charles will be truly missed by all who knew him. Everyone who crossed his path was considered family by him. He liked being around family and close friends, spending large amounts of time reminiscing of the past and making new memories with his daughters and grandchildren. Charles loved his extended family and spent many hours keeping in touch with his siblings and their children. He was passionate about playing cards, knowing the best ways to outmaneuver his opponents, to include cheating. Charles had a lively spirit and his friends will miss his fun-loving ways and happy demeanor.
Charles was preceded in death by his father, Frank Scott, his mother, Gladys Riles-Smith, his sister, Sylvia A. Bryant, and his brother, Felton J. Riles.
Charles leaves to cherish his memory, daughters, Latasha M. Williams (Jerry Price) of St. Louis, MO and Shantise Pettigrew of Burlington, IA; his goddaughter, Renis D. Williams (Robert Smith), whom he raised from birth, of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Derron and Natasha McCray; two sons; his goddaughter's children, Kenise, Christopher, and Nautica Little, and Iyanna Smith, James O.
