Mr. Charles Don Redmon was born January 3, 1940 in St. Louis, MO to the union of Harry Lee and Viola Patterson Redmon. He was their only child. He was preceded in death by his father. Charles grew up in East St. Louis, IL and attended East St. Louis School District 189. He graduated from Lincoln Senior High School in June 1958. He was baptized at Mount Paran Baptist Church at an early age. His family later joined St. John's Lutheran church, which eventually became Unity Lutheran Church.
He received an associate degree from both East St. Louis State Community College and Belleville Area college. He served in the United States Army from 1963-1965. He was honorably discharged. He married Lavondas Briggs on July 25, 1965. To this Union two daughters Cynthia and Lori, were born.
He was employed by General Steel as a Crane Operator, the city of East St. Louis as a Building Inspector, and the United States Federal Government as an Engineering Technician. He retired from the Federal Government in 2005.
As a member of the East. St. Louis Jaycee's Chapter 2, he helped to establish the Vietnam Memorial in Lincoln Park in East St. Louis, IL.
As an Elder at Unity Lutheran Church, he was a loyal steward for sixty years. He served in many capacities including: Sunday School Teacher Choir Member Southern Illinois District Convention Delegate and Alternate Delegate Usher Board member President and Active Vice-President Active member of the church council Lansdowne Community Initiative Board Member Men's Ministry Board of Elders
In addition, Elder Redmon served Unity Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod at large, in many capacities. To God be the glory!
Charles fell asleep peacefully in the arms of Jesus on April 3, 2018 at Christian Hospital Northeast in St. Louis, MO. He leaves to cherish to his memory and mourn his passing his loving and devoted wife of 53 years Lavondas Redmon, two daughters Cynthia (Todd) Corley of Dublin, Ohio, Lori (Aaron) Arter of Powder Springs, Georgia, three grandchildren: Jarred, Brooke, and Elease Corley of Dublin, Ohio , his mother Viola Redmon of East St. Louis, Illinois, cousins: Stephanie Patterson and Katie Davis of Los Angeles, California, Cora Thomas of Hawthorne, California, Robert (Sulbrena) Day of Waterloo, IL , Cheryl Brown of Jackson, Michigan, Robert Day Jr of East St. Louis, IL and a host of nieces, nephews and his Unity Church family.
