Carl Otis Madison (Chodie) was born on February 4, 1953 to the union of Otis D. and Helen Madison. He was the eighth of thirteen children. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Paul Stanley, and Byron; his sisters, Iona Gardner, Carolyn Harring, and Diane Madison, and niece, Latunya Madison.
He married the love of his life, Margaret Knight on June 1, 1972. They enjoyed 43 years of wedded bliss, before her passing in 2018. To this union, four children were born.
Chodie, as he was affectionately called, was educated in the East St. Louis School District #189. He was employed by Continental Grain CO., Glenn Ambulance Service, and Nash Funeral Home was an EMT for over 30 years beginning as a young 16 year old. Carl was one of the best ambulance drivers this city has ever known. He was also a mechanic working on everybody's car in the city.
Chodie was a lifelong friend to many.
His is survived by his daughter, Kimberly (Demond) Johnson of Collinsville, IL and three sons, Carlandus (Quinca) Knight, Maurice Knight, and Tarrell (Shaneisha) Madison, all of Omaha, NE. He is also survived by his sister, Marilyn Norton of East St. Louis, IL, and two brothers, Calvin (Jackie) Madison of Plattsburgh, NY and Jeffery W. Madison of Cahokia Heights, IL; eleven grandchildren, Tyronn, Tarre'anne, De'Avion, Da'Nyla, Da'Marques and Za'Khari Madison, Monica Knight, Antonio Pollack, Ema'Hin Knight, Kymmonda and Nya'Tika Johnson and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and a host of friends.
