Bernice
Denzmore
Aug 12, 1964 — Mar 17, 2024
Bernice "Miss B." Denzmore was born August 12, 1964 to Dorothy L. Denzmore and Albert Denzmore in St. Louis, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers: Albert "Skeet" Denzmore, Carl Jackson, Sr., Bradley Hunnicut, Larry Hunnicut, Van Darrell Hunnicut, Edward Hunnicut, and James W. Denzmore; six sisters, Lisa Hunnicut, Ernestine "Stine" Wade, Rita Hunnicut, Phyliss Hunnicut, Karen Whigham, and Ramona "Mona" Prater; one grandson, Izelle D. Sayles; one fur baby, her dog Alex, and several other close family members and friends.
Bernice started her education in the East St. Louis School District #189. She later began maneuvering through life as well as she could with the skills obtained through working odd jobs to support her children. Her eagerness to learn and diligence paid off when she obtained her years-long career at St. Mary's Hospital, later renamed Kenneth Hall Regional, in the dietary department. She then began earning certifications from SWIC in East St. Louis to further expand her dietary knowledge and skills. These acquired skills allowed her to serve other communities through their healthcare facilities such as Touchette Regional Hospital, and The Comprehensive Behavioral Center. She worked by doing what she loved until health issues arose and discontinued her from being of service.
Bernice was a firm believer in God and raised her family to believe as well. She was always there to offer those motherly words of encouragement or even a prayer whenever needed. She was indeed a praying woman. Her favorite scripture to quote was Proverbs 13:24, "Spare the rod, spoil the child," because she knew the amount of love and discipline that was needed in a home with seven children. Later in her adult years, she developed her own personal relationship with Christ and would attend church service as often as she could with her big sisters, and other family and loved ones.
Bernice was a nurturing beautiful soul that would randomly call anyone just to converse and check on their well being. She loved to go to bingo with her friends, spend time with her children, grandchildren, and cooking meals while playing her tunes and dancing in the kitchen. If she wasn't out and about being friendly, you can guarantee she was in the living room with her eyes fixed on the T.V. watching an entertaining movie or show. Through motherhood, she instilled morals and taught her children to love and care for each other because in the end, all you have is your family and memories. Bernice transitioned peacefully in the early morning hours of March 17, 2024 at the Mercy Rehab and Care Center. Her loving soul and deep dimple will forever be missed.
Bernice leaves behind to cherish her precious memory, seven children, Leetoyah M. Sayles of East St. Louis, IL, Lea M. Sayles of Fairview Heights, IL, Michelle L. Walker of Lebanon, IL, Nathan E. Walker, Sr. of Denver, CO, Ethan J. Walker of San Antonio, TX, Levona B. Denzmore of Cahokia Heights, IL, and Kilo A. Gines of Arcola, IL; eight grandchildren, Quameisha Coates, DeMaree Walker, Jamaar Brown of Lebanon, IL, Jayden Walker of Granite City, IL, Arielle Walker of Collinsville, IL, Elias Walker, Nathan Walker, Jr., and Aspen Walker of Denver, CO; three sisters, Christine (Howard) Blake of Belleville, IL, Sheila (Nathaniel) Roberson of Nashville, TN and Alma Denzmore of Aurora, CO; five brothers, Clifford (Diedre) Fields of Fairview Heights, IL, Rodney (Joann) Denzmore of Hillside, NJ, Albert Prater of East St. Louis, IL, Larry Prater Sr. of Nashville, TN, and Kevin (Kendranna) Prater of East St. Louis, IL; , and a host of relatives and friends.
