Bernadine Phillips was born on May 25, 1946 in East St.
Louis, Illinois to the union of Matthew Adams and Christine
Johnson who both preceded her in death.
Bernadine was a lifelong resident of the Metro East Area. At a
young age, she confessed a hope in Christ and received him as
her Lord and Savior. She became a member of Macedonia
Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Norman E. Owens,
Sr. She received her education through District 189 graduating
from East St. Louis Sr. High. She later entered the healthcare
field and her last job was at Jackie Joyner Kersee in the
Grandparent Program.
She found and married the love of her life, Otis Phillips, who
also preceded her in death. Later in life, she met Lorenzo Delk,
Sr., her significant other. They were together until her death.
Bernadine loved to go "thrifting" There was not a thrift store
she didn't know. She also loved gardening, singing, sewing,
and crocheting. She was a part of the Mother's Board and was
an active member of Shining Light Missionary Baptist Church.
But most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
Bernadine was also preceded in death by her sister, Armetine
Johnson and her daughter, Audrey L. Johnson-Smith.
Bernadine departed this life on September 18, 2020 after a
brief illness in Belleville, Illinois She leaves to cherish her
memory, her children, Franchescha A. (Eric W., Sr.) Streater,
Tyrone P. Anderson, Jr., Charisse M. (Kenneth E.)
Montgomery; grandchildren, Kinyotta (Lorenzo) Delk, Jr.,
Kimberly Baker, Victor L. Canada, Jr., Alex D. (Latonya)
Johnson, Jr., Alicia Johnson, Fanshun Montgomery, Meagan
Harvey, Jamie O'Neal, Tiana Anderson, Kendall Montgomery;
significant other, Lorenzo Delk, Sr. numerous great -
grandchildren; 1 goddaughter; numerous other relatives and
friends.
