Barbara Ann "Babs" Guyton was born on January 11, 1960, in East Saint Louis, Illinois, to the late Marilyn and Arthur Jefferson. She was the 5th of seven children.

Barbara grew up surrounded by a close-knit family and community in East St. Louis. From a young age, she was known for her vibrant personality, infectious smile, and her caring heart. She graduated from Assumption High School, where she built lifelong friendships and discovered her love for helping others. Barbara committed her life to Christ at an early age at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

In April of 1981, Barbara married the love of her life, Jerry L. Guyton Sr. Together, they built a beautiful family rooted in faith, laughter, and love. As a devoted military wife, Barbara embraced every new journey with courage and optimism. Her life of travel allowed her to experience Europe where they lived in Germany and many parts of the United States, giving her a unique perspective and a deep appreciation for diverse cultures and people. Wherever she went, Barbara created a home filled with warmth, hospitality, and joy.

Education and service were cornerstones of Barbara's life. She earned her Associate's Degree in Business Administration from Arkansas Northeastern College in Blytheville, Arkansas, and carried those skills into her professional journey. For nearly two decades, she served faithfully with the Economic Opportunity Commission (EOC), dedicating herself to empowering families and strengthening her community. She also used her talents as a tax preparer, where her patience, wisdom, and attention to detail helped countless individuals achieve their financial goals and peace of mind.

Barbara's passions reflected her creativity and generosity. She loved shopping, cooking, and sewing, but her greatest joy came from bringing people together and caring for those around her. Whether it was preparing a favorite meal, offering a listening ear, or lending her skills to solve a problem, Barbara lived a life of service. She remarkable ability to see the good in others and to encourage them, even during life challenges.

Her faith and resilience carried her through every season, and her legacy is one of grace, perseverance, and unwavering love. To know Barbara was to experience, kindness, laughter, and the joy of her presence.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Marilyn and Arthur Jefferson; her siblings, Victoria Wilburn, Arthur Jefferson Jr., and Kathy Jefferson Vinette.

On August 26, 2025, surrounded by her loving husband, children, and sister in love, Barbara gained her wings into heaven. Barbara leaves behind her devoted husband of 44 years, Jerry Guyton Sr.; her loving children, Toya Guyton, Jerry Guyton Jr., and Johnae Guyton; her cherished sister, Mary Stanford Perkins; her brothers, David Jefferson and Greg Jefferson; a host of sisters, brothers-in-law, and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will continue to celebrate her memory.

Barbara's life was a testament to love, perseverance, and compassion. Though her earthly presence will be deeply missed, her spirit will forever remain in the lives she touched. As she would want us to remember: "I may be gone from the flesh, but I am still with you."
