Obituary

Annie Darletha Dugger was born to Phillip and Sarah Booker on July 11, 1952 in Norfolk, Virginia. Phillip and Sarah later moved to Jacksonville, N.C., where she was raised in the Bell Fork Neighborhood, attending Bell Fork Elementary School and graduating from Jacksonville High School.

Affectionately called Darletha, she met Larry Dugger on Camp Lejune Marine Corps base on July 11, 1971, on her 19th birthday. They developed a relationship and married on June 9, 1972. This union produced three beautiful daughters: Fetima, Monicka, and Lynelle.

Darletha was led to Christ by her neighbor's Mother Rose Meredith, and the Late Bishop Robert L. Meredith. She was baptized in the name of Jesus on September 26, 1974, at Onslow Beach in Jacksonville, N.C., becoming the first Shiloh Apostolic Holiness Church member. She quickly became a student of the Word of God, leading her sisters, husband, brothers, and many others to Christ. She was a Licensed Missionary and was instrumental in starting the first choir at Shiloh, often directing and leading songs. She would also go out and evangelize, winning many souls to Christ.

As a military wife, she served in many capacities throughout various churches, following her husband during his career. Those churches include Bethesda Apostolic of Fresno, California, under the Late Bishop Henry L. Johnson. Christ Temple Church ~ Makakila, Hawaii, under District Elder John Hammond and Greater Christ Temple Church, where she spent 31 years serving faithfully under the late Bishop Curtis E. Montgomery and his successor upon retiring, SFG Bishop Prentis V. Johnson.

Over the years, she served on the Membership Committee as a Greeter and a Senior Usher board member, Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, President of the Women's Auxiliary, and Director of the Evangelist Singers.

Darletha was indeed he epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman. She cared for her husband and family, made clothes, fed the hungry and homeless, cared for the sick and shut-in, and made time for senior citizens in and out of her congregation. She ministered to those in need spiritually and naturally, interceding, praying, and providing wisdom to many. Her grace and wisdom touched many lives. She often spoke without speaking; however, when she spoke, people listened.

Darletha was a home executor until her youngest child was five and off to kindergarten. She attended nursing school and was an in-home caregiver for older people. She was a telephone operator for Carolina Telephone and Telegraph, Onslow Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, N.C., and Hawaii Telephone Company in Honolulu, HI. She retired from McChord-Harbostone Credit Union in Lakewood, WA, after working 26 years as a financial administrator.

A fun-loving Nanna to her first set of grandchildren and Yaya to the last three, she often had snowball, berry, or tomato fights. She took them to the fair, horseback riding, and airshows to see the Blue Angels. She baked cookies and cupcakes, put together puzzles, and kept stickers in her purse for church services. Darletha ensured all of her grandchildren knew the Lord. As with her husband, siblings, and children, she instilled the word of God in them. Her salutation, "Be watchful and prayerful," will live on throughout the next generations.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Sarah Booker; brothers, Phillip Booker, Jr. and McGrew Booker; sisters, Mary Pearl and Delores Booker; brothers-in-law, Calvin D. Barnes Sr. (C.D.) and Maurice Harris; sister-in-law, Toni Booker; nephew, Michael Booker & Derrick C. Barnes.
