Obituary

Anathana "Ann" Weaver Rhodes was born July 30, 1950 to the union of Otis W. Weaver & Edna Bolden.  Ten children were born to this union. Ann Weaver was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Cleagnest Hinton, Teretha Weaver, Rosalie Branch and her brothers Eugene Lewis and James Jones. Two of her children, Mark Timothy Weaver, Teresa Weaver and a step son Jamel Rhodes all preceded her in death.

Ann Weaver confessed a hope in Christ at New Emmanual Church in Blytheville, Arkansas at an early age. She relocated to Illinois in the early 80's where she joined Christ Redeemed Missionary Baptist Church. It was here that she met and married Pastor Phillip Rhodes. They began their journey together on February 14, 1985.  Ann accepted her calling to preach the word of God and after studying under the direction of Bishop Dewitt Rhodes decided in 2002 to branch out on her own and founded Tabernacle of Praise Freewill  Baptist Church where she and Pastor Phillip Rhodes co-pastored. In May 2011, Pastor Ann and Pastor Phillip Rhodes decided to combine their church with Christ Redeemed and she was appointed the Mission Pastor where she served faithfully and tirelessly until God called her home.

Ann Weaver always wanted to reach the less fortunate and that was her ministry. She was always prepared to handle giving out sandwiches to the homeless.  You would see her going to nursing homes to bring some cheer to those that were forgotten. She would always bring everyone else she met the word of God and sometimes a joke. She was loved by many and she will be missed.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Pastor Phillip Rhodes; one daughter, Reneatha Tompkin; three step-children, Harvey, Jerry, and Philana; four sisters, Althea (Burton) Furlow, Verlene (Eugene) Collins, Genova Thomas, and Vergie Branch; five grandchildren, Edward Terran Weaver, Alexis (Lee) Matthews, Christina Weaver, Ivan Weaver, Anthony Tompkin and Antwon Tompkin; and a host of nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, cousins, in-laws, and friends that will miss her dearly.
